What is included in a traditional burial?

A traditional burial usually includes:

1. Basic services of the funeral home (paperwork, coordination)
2. Preparation of the body (often embalming, if there is a viewing)
3. A casket
4. A grave space (the piece of ground)
5. Opening and closing the grave (digging and filling)
6. An outer container, grave liner, or vault (many cemeteries require one)
7. A headstone or grave marker, plus its installation (cemeteries typically charge a setting fee, often calculated by the square inch of the marker)

Each of these is a separate item with its own price. You are allowed to choose each piece separately — for example, buying a casket from somewhere other than the funeral home.
