A viewing (also called a visitation or wake) is a set time when family and friends gather to pay respects. The casket may be open or closed.
Many families find viewings helpful for saying goodbye. Others prefer to skip them. Both choices are completely normal.
A viewing usually requires embalming and use of the funeral home's room, which adds costs. Ask for these to be itemized on the price list.
