Yes. A memorial service can be held at a funeral home, a church or other place of worship, or an alternative site — community halls, homes, parks, restaurants, and graveside at the cemetery are all common. A "celebration of life" at a favorite spot has become very common.
Funeral homes can still help coordinate an outside service, or your family can arrange it entirely on their own — especially for a memorial service after cremation or burial, where no special handling is needed.
