Disclaimer
Important legal and practical information about using this website.
General information only
PreArrangements.com provides general educational information about final arrangements. We are not a funeral home, insurance company, attorney, or financial advisor. Nothing on this site constitutes legal, financial, medical, or funeral-service advice.
Prices vary by location and provider
Price ranges shown on this site are typical national ranges for educational purposes. Actual prices vary significantly by region, provider, and even day of the week. Always request an itemized General Price List from 2–3 local providers before making decisions.
Laws vary by state
Funeral, burial, cremation, and consumer-protection laws differ by state. Some disposition methods (human composting, alkaline hydrolysis, green burial) are not available everywhere. Always confirm local rules before relying on any option described here.
FTC Funeral Rule
Under the Federal Trade Commission's Funeral Rule, consumers have the right to:
- Get price information over the phone.
- Receive a written, itemized price list when visiting a funeral home.
- Buy only the goods and services they want — no forced packages.
- Use a casket or urn purchased elsewhere with no extra fee.
- Decline embalming in most situations.
Read the full rule at consumer.ftc.gov/articles/ftc-funeral-rule.
Reports are not contracts
Any report generated by this site is a summary of choices you entered. It is not a contract, does not create a prepaid funeral plan, and does not guarantee prices or availability. You and your family remain free to choose any provider and make any changes you wish.
No provider referrals
We do not receive compensation from funeral homes or other providers. We do not steer you toward any particular provider or choice. Our only goal is to help you make informed decisions.
Veterans benefits
Veterans burial benefits are administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and are free. Never pay anyone for "veteran funeral benefits" — if someone tries to charge you, report them to the FTC or your state attorney general.
